Day 4, It's Wednesday already!

So Dani and I have already "cheated" and gone off of the Whole 30 program. We are switching to Paleo. She is going to incorporate small amounts of dairy, as it does not effect her G.I. system. And I am going to use protein powder and am craving Paleo pancakes, both of which aren't allowed by the Whole 30.
One big announcement!!! My "Everyday Paleo" cookbook just arrived in the mail today.. Wooooot!!!
Lots of great recipes and simple ideas.
Tomorrow we are having Paleo Blueberry Pancakes for breakfast..

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

Day 3, now we're getting some momentum..

I've been pretty hungry all day, and have been craving something different. So, I stayed up late and made the Meatball and Marinara post from the Facebook event site. If you missed it, here you go.
http://paleogirls.com/2010/03/15/mammas-meatballs-and-marinara-sauce/

Marinara has been simmering for an hour and is really light and flavorful. Meatballs have a half hour. Probably going to eat these for lunch and dinner tomorrow..

Day 2, this is easy...

Way to get your clean on people! Day 1 is in the books.
With clean foods you may need to eat a bit more than you think to meet the demands of your active lifestyle. Here's a great list of Clean foods and recipes http://liveprimal.com/LPrecipes.pdf
I won't mention any names, but someone eh hem Matt, texted me today stating that they were a bit light headed and fainty because they'd not eaten very much.
During my first Paleo challenge, I had a similar experience. The next day the portions were larger for every meal. For lunch that day I filled a popcorn bowl half way with spinach leafs, the rest with chopped up veggies then topped it with chicken and some olive oil. Took me a half hour to find the bottom. But it did the trick.
So, don't be afraid to feed your body.. If it's clean and lean and full of nutrients, you'll be doing yourself a favor.
Here's a good link for you endurance athletes out there..

28 day Clean and Lean

This is a challenge to create new habits, and was inspired by this article.
www.mylwi.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/vistage-14-days.pdf
In short it takes “14 days to rewire your brain or create new pathways that make habits easier to follow.”
Why?
“Deep down, you know that promising yourself to change one more time just isn’t going to do it?
Crossfit preaches that exercise is only half of the true fitness equation. To be truly “fit” it takes “50% exercise & 50% diet.”
The article states “wellness is an integration of mind and body, and allowing yourself to change for the better.”
So what are we going to do for the challenge?
Page two of the article discusses ways to increase your ability to change.. We are going to utilize two of these methods.
This item you will keep private.
A) “write the truth about why you haven’t made changes and what changes are possible. Be honest.” Avoid negative phrasing like, “I can’t” or “it’s too hard.” “Consider how to rephrase these statements as things you can do.” As stated above, keep this for yourself to reference once the challenge is over.
This item we want you to share in your first post. This will be your Goal statement.
B) write down what you want to accomplish with this challenge. What are your goals? What habits to you want to change or create?

Rules of the challenge:
1) Create at least two goals or positive habits to achieve.
2) post your meals daily, along with any rants, raves, or interesting topics.
3) Get strict with your diet.. We are open to you using the “diet” of your choice, but pick something that will ensure you make positive changes. Some recommended samples are:

Thanks for accepting the challenge! Go ahead and post your goal statement and diet of choice in comments. And remember to come back starting Sunday to start posting your daily food intake. This will make a new you!!

MANWOD 5, freaking EPIC!

Started off by having everyone carry either a log or stump from my truck to the Sylvan couse HQ, aka the dirty cement walls.
We then proceeded to throw down!
The expanded course is brutal to say the least.. The added hill climbs and wall muscle ups are beefy.
We also threw in regular and isometric squats on the pier, and finished each loop to ground to overheads with a stump or pullups.
Two chicky chikitas challenged the course for the first time, Theresa and Laurel. They gave a great effort and looked just as beat up as the rest of us post-wod.
Thanks for coming out and digging deep everyone!

 See you at MANWOD 6......

ManWOD #3 at the slough

So.....for all you men out there. Where the HELL were you? I'll tell you this....the 3 of us crushed it today! Derik, Deezy, and myself had a blast. We added a couple of new loops to the course. We made 5 loops around it. A lot of the course was the same, the pillar climbs and block jumps and hill climb. The part we added was NASTY! The movements today.....20 Squats, 20 Pull Ups, 15 Jumping Muscle Ups on a 6ft block wall each round!!! Next week.....BE THERE!

Here is a photo of deezy and derik demoing a pull up ibeam!

The Warm Up Gone Wrong!!

MANWOD 2

The second installment of MAN WOD was a great success.. A group of us were able to set up the route and tasks before the posted challenge time, and it made a great difference. We now have a solid course set up on Sylvan island which includes wall climbs, box jumps, railroad tie flips, ground to overheads with huge brick clusters, radio tower ascent, as well as a grueling set of obstacles to climb over.
Additionally, an I-beam was installed over a couple of walls to create a pull up station that will be utilized on MAN WOD 3.
We would like to give a huge shout out to Ron Rasmussen who was flipped over by the wheel barrel at the end of our sprint time trial. He's missing a good part of his leg, but his spirit remains intact. Thank you Ron for showing us the true BALLS it takes to partake in MANWOD. Attached is a pic of Ron's leg, a vid is to follow shortly.
